The cicadas and crickets are singing their last song of the year. The bats flutter overhead in a moonlit sky. It's starting to turn cool, and there’s an electric, crackling energy in the night.
As I sit here, I feel a weight. Do you feel it too? There's unfairness all around us; a worry hangs like a loaded backpack. Looking up at the stars, a satellite glides across the vast ocean of space, orbiting us. Could our worries be alleviated by pure curiosity? Could we have momentary peace, listening to the foreign language of animals speaking?
This is what I feel when I'm swept up in a piece of music. When the sound takes over, and for a second, nothing and everything makes sense at the same time. Being part of something bigger than my tiny, feeble mind can even comprehend. Music is some sort of portal, and my mind steps through to a place of awe and wonder if I let go. It's not necessarily about escaping the world, but about seeing it from a different angle, with a perspective that reminds you how absurd this all is. The grand scheme of things is laughably vast.
Can this music today be that momentary portal for you?
Go to a place of wonder in your mind, a space where you can be quiet, and simply look up in awe.
